Class 1 Hannafore trip 18.07.19

Class 1 rock pool discoveries.

On Thursday 18th July class 1 headed off the the Hannafore to complete their learning about the creatures living in our oceans. Mrs Wakeham was thrilled to have teamed up with Looe Marine Conservation Society and with the guidance of their lovely volunteers the children learnt so much about life in our waters.

Looking so closely.

This hands on experience enabled the children to get so close to the creatures and sea life living in the rock pools.

The children also teamed up to create some wonderful beach art

Armed with their buckets, they set off to discover what secrets the tide had left behind.

A fantastic learning experience.

Class 3 Newquay Zoo trip 12.03.19

We didn't let a little bit of rain stop our fun at the zoo!

Whilst half of the class were away on the residential trip visiting Bristol zoo, the remaining half of class 3 enjoyed a trip of their own to Newquay zoo. The weather was awful but it didn't dampen our spirits and we felt like we had the whole zoo to ourselves!

The trip was built into a mini project where the children planned their own visit. They researched the zoo, download the zoo map and planned which animals they wanted to see. They thought about what they wanted to find out about the animals and wrote their own question sheets.

The monkeys were a real hit as they played with the children at the window to the enclosure. We also had our own personal penguin talk and the children had the opportunity to ask the keepers lots of questions.

The biggest highlight of the day was when one of the keepers came to find us to ask if we wanted to feed the meerkats. We jumped at the chance. The children learnt all about the types of food meerkats like to eat and they were particularly excited when they got to throw the food to them.

The children followed up the trip with some excellent artwork to share with their friends when they returned.

Class 1 wedding! 18.03.19

A real life Edwardian wedding took place in St. Nunn's church today!  Class one have been learning about life in the past and their class text inspired this wonderful experience.

The story of Minnie and Ginger encouraged the children to re-enact the wedding, with the help of Reverend Marilyn. The children prepared the wedding reception and invited friends and family to attend.

They thoroughly enjoyed dressing up and playing each of the characters from the story. There was a very proud best man and a real Edwardian style wedding cake.

They couldn't believe they were getting to eat real flowers! We have some wonderful wedding photos to share.

The children helped to get all the food ready for the wedding reception.

The cake was cut and everyone enjoyed a piece.

The table was prepared.

The wedding party posed for photographs.

Easter Holiday Activity

We’re going on a Bunny Hunt!!!!

Volunteers working on the Looe Live Community Zone are raising funds for a new Looe Live Community Chest to help support local groups, organisations and events that improve community life and good causes in Looe. Funds raised would be ring fenced to support the future of the Community Zone as part of the Looe Live Festival, but also provide a fund to support other community events and activities throughout the year, that will enhance the town socially, environmentally and culturally.

Not sure what to do with the children over the Easter holidays??? Let them join in the fun of trying to find the little gold bunnies that have been hidden around Looe in participating shop windows.

There are 20 gold bunnies to find, 5 in shop windows in West Looe, and 15 in East Looe. Each participating business will also have a poster in their window.

Entry forms are on sale at the Looe Tourist Information Centre from April 1st from 10.00 – 15.00 Mon - Fri at £1.00 per sheet. Once the sheet is completed, please return to the TIC with a contact name and phone number on the reverse.

Prizes for three lucky winners returning their correct forms by Friday 19th April. The winner will be announced on Easter Sunday on East Looe Seafront following the Beach Easter Egg Hunt.

We hope you will enjoy the hunt and appreciate your support.

There will be a gold bunny on display in the Tourist Information Centre so that the children will know what they look like!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Bridge Schools Values Conference

Excellence, determination, creativity, enthusiasm, responsibility and curiosity.

On Friday 1st March we sent our house ambassadors to the Bridge Schools values conference. Children and adults from all 14 of Bridge Schools attended the event at the beautiful St. Wenn church to talk about and take part in activities linked to the 6 main values of the Trust.

The ambassadors produced a powerpoint about our values and learning at Pelynt Primary Academy, to share with the other schools.

By the end of the day, when all 6 values had been explored, there was a common conclusion that these values are important to us all, now and in our future lives. The ambassadors will share what they learnt in assembly and we will then work together as a whole school to explore what these values mean to everyone at Pelynt Primary Academy.

Class 4 boat project

Class 4 having been linking their Science and History learning to produce these wonderful boats.

After researching boats of the past they worked collaboratively to design and build their own. The next step was to make predictions about the amount of cargo they could hold.

In addition to this they investigated and tested a variety of pulley systems and basic mechanisms. I loved the fact that they used natural resources to create these masterpieces.

Ask your child to show you which boat they created and how successful it was when it came to floating and carrying cargo.

Cinderella day 26.02.19

What a fantastic first day back at school!

Both schools joined together to enjoy a day centred around the story of Cinderella. The day began with storytelling in the hall, where each of the teachers had a role to play! The children thought this was hilarious. We certainly have some talented actors amongst our teaching staff!

The day continued with a range of activities to inspire the children to write their own stories later in the week.

Collaboratively, the Reception and KS1 children looked at alternative versions of the story and generated a range of vocabulary to describe the thoughts and feelings of the characters. The KS2 children focused on story structure and language. Everyone had a great day and really benefited from working together.

We finished the day with a sharing assembly so that the children could explain to the rest of the school what they had been learning about.
I was so impressed with the range of vocabulary they generated and explored. I can't wait to read their own stories.
