School Council Our School Council is a group of dedicated and passionate pupils who are committed to making our
school a better place for everyone. School Council members are elected by their peers in our School
Council elections which we hold every September. Well done to everyone who put themselves
forward and to those who have been elected this year: Elsie, Martha, Henry, Grace, Tabbi, Benjamin,
Amelia, Ronnie and Ada and Phoebe (our member for Pupil Voice for PE and Sport). Information about
our School Council can be found on this website under the ‘Our Children’ tab.
Time Capsule
Each of our classes has created a booklet to go in a time capsule to be buried under Big Green in Polperro which
is currently being refurbished. The booklets contain the children’s self-portraits and their wishes for
the future. To go with the booklets, we have written a letter to the future (attached) which Tristan
read beautifully to the school at today’s assembly.
Asda Cash for Schools
Parentkind – a charity that supports school PTAs - have teamed up with Asda, who is making millions
of pounds available to donate to primary schools across the UK through their ‘Cashpot for Schools’
initiative. To support our school, all you have to do is opt-in through the Asda Rewards app, shop
and scan in store or shop online at Asda.com. Between 2nd September and 30th November 2024,
every time you shop with Asda using the Rewards app, our school will receive a percentage of your
spend.
Home School Agreement/ Parental Consents
Please would you take some time to log into your Arbor Parent Portal/App to check both your
own and your child’s data, amending where necessary ensuring you have details of at least two
contacts on your file in case of an emergency. Once logged in you will notice that the 2024/25
Home School Agreement has been uploaded. Consents are to be completed for every child to
enable them to have photos taken, watch PG films, attend local sporting events and access
approved learning platforms etc.
Pre-loved uniform
We keep a stock of very good condition pre-loved uniform in school (£1 donation per item towards
school funds). Please bear this in mind if you need to replace any items for your child. There is a rail
of items just inside the reception. Please ask at the office for a range of sizes.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our Meet the Teacher sessions on Wednesday 25th September at 2:45.
Have a good weekend.

I cannot believe it's in the end of the week - it's flown by!
Talland have been working their socks off this week! We even managed to squeeze a couple of cheeky swims in - might as well make the most of the sun shine!
Maths:
Both year groups are nearing the end of the first unit (place value). Addition and subtraction is next on the list!
English:
Talland have worked their way through the features of an instructional text - next week it will be time to begin planning to write their own (independently). Let's see how much they've learnt - it should be fun!
Art:
We had lots of fun using black and white paint to show the children how to add shade to a colour using black or tint a colour using white. Why not ask your child what shading and tinting means?
Geography:
We've continued looking at erosion and what causes this to happen - fun added homework task to those who choose a little adventure - take pictures of you and child on/next to (nothing dangerous) different coastal features: Arch, bay, beach, cave, cliffs, coast, cove, headland, island, stack, stump, sand dune, spit. I wonder who can find the most?
CONGRATULATIONS:
Well done to Isabelle for earning a 99 club badge!
Well done to Skye for being noticed as Tallander of the week!
I have attached the spellings your children will be learning next week. If you have time, it would be fantastic if you could help your child learn them along with their times tables.
That's all from Talland. We hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
Signing off from Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Miss. Colton.

Chaipel have been busy this week, investigating Place Value in Maths and are really getting to grips with dealing with numbers up to 10,000,000. Next week, we will be rounding, reasoning and problem solving, applying our new understanding.
We are currently planning our newspaper report on the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and destruction of Pompeii and this week we have been exploring how to write 'journalist-style', practising direct and indirect reporting as well as past simple and past progressive verb sentences. We will be writing our report next week and I look forward to reading them!
For Spellings, we have been creating Top Trump cards for our curriculum spellings, navigating dictionaries and unpicking a word, its composition and its word family. Phoebe and Verity have created some impressive cards full of facts.
We have been exploring the use of water colour in Art, and experimenting with various techniques to create texture. Freddie worked extremely hard and has produced some incredible work to be proud of.
Today, we were lucky to have had the opportunity to create class cards to put into a time capsule which will be buried beneath the new Big Green for future inhabitants of Polperro to unearth in years to come...
Congratulations to our People of the Week - Aria and Imogen - to displaying our school values as well as to Dom for achieving his 99 Club.
Have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday.
Mss Randle, Mrs Clary and Mrs Hodge.

Wow!
What a great start to the year.
The children have settled in brilliantly and are becoming more confident in their new classroom and playground.
We started off their learning with Science exploring our key question ‘what are the characteristics of an animal?’ The children discovered which groups different animals belonged to, looked at their diet to decide if they were a carnivore, omnivore or herbivore and what makes an animal suitable to be pet.
In English the children learnt the story of ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ by acting it out with actions. This lead on them writing the story in their books before making up their own animal hunt adventure!
In Maths the children began with place value by counting and representing objects, recognizing numbers as words, counting on from a number and finding 1 more/1 less within 10.
You will find a log in for ‘Numbots’ in your childs reading record. This is an app which can be accessed from home.
Please don’t forget we visit the school library on a Thursday if you would like a new book to read please return it each week.
We update our class blog regularly so keep coming back to find out what else we have been up to.
Many thanks
Year One team.

Wow! What another wonderful week of learning we have had!
This week the children have learnt the sounds i/n/m/and d/
in phonics and have worked hard to continue holding their pencils correctly and
write these letters daily.
We completed dough disco daily too as this helps strengthen
the children’s hands so they can grip their pencils correctly.
This week the children worked in teams with Mrs Gregory and
Mrs Lyden and sequenced the story of Were Going on a Bear Hunt! The children
then started their first bit of formal English activity and sat with an adult
to sequence the story themselves, they then thought of words to match the story
and tried to write the initial sounds of that word! WOW!
In maths this week the children have been exploring the
topic of Match, Sort and Compare! They have worked amazingly well at matching
objects, sorting them and comparing them with lots of different resources. We
even went out to the big playground and sorted items in big circles!
The foundation children have also used their cutting skills
to cut parts of a bear out to make the Bear from our book, they have been
making their homes from Lego, using natural resources to make faces, read
books, made tracks for the bikes and so much more!
It's been a wonderful week of exploring and learning!
Have a lovely weekend

Another week has flown by in Tregantle Class - and what a fun week we've had! Our EYFS children have been making the most of the nice weather and exploring our amazing garden area. We went on a 'bug hunt' and found all sorts of interesting creatures and insects. The children have used the magnifying glasses and bug identification sheets to find out what the bugs they found are called. We have got really into our story of the week 'Jack and the Beanstalk.' The children have been busy acting out the story and making their own beanstalks. We are super proud of how hard the EYFS children are working in their phonics lessons. We are using our 'SHAPE' learning skills every day to learn and remember each new sound. Our rhyme of the week has been 'This Little Piggy.' Tregantle Class are now experts at reciting the rhyme and have even made up some of their own actions to go with the rhyme.
In year 1 the children have been working on numbers to 10. Their focus has been finding 1 more and 1 less and using sentence stems to show their learning. In English they have written their class story 'Paddington Bear' using capital letters and full stops - amazing! The children really enjoyed their RE lesson this week where they listened to the story of Moses. You can see the children re-enacting the story in the photographs. The Year 1's have been lucky to have two sessions with 'Cricket Chris' this week and develop their throwing and catching skills.
Once again we are so pleased that the Tregantle children have tried so hard to use their 'Issy Manners' all week. We have been filled with pride listening to them talk confidently using please and thank you to the adults and children around school. There has also been a whole school focus on saying kind words, of which we've heard so much of in Tregantle Class. What incredible children we have!

Issy's Nursery children have enjoyed this last week of sunshine and being able to pop in and out of the indoor learning environment to explore the outside.
Some of our new children have really enjoyed the outdoor space and it has made settling in so much easier.
Whether the children have been digging, sliding, climbing, investigating, spinning, rolling, pretending or chatting to their friends, everyone has enjoyed feeling the warm sun on their faces.

Lost Uniform
We’ve only been back two weeks, but are already gathering up lots of uniform from around the school. Please encourage your children, as we will do at school, to take responsibility for gathering their own belongings. Please name all uniform; thank you for your cooperation.
School Photos
Next Tuesday and Wednesday, Tempest Photography will be in school taking individual and sibling photos over the two days. Please ensure your child is looking super smart in their full uniform (as always) and if wanted, provide them with a comb/brush for their hair.

This week Lantic class have been writing our class story about Paddington in London. The have shown great resilience as it has not always been easy!
Year 2's have been working with Lyndsey Wilde from the NHS Mental Health Support Team. They worked on resilience and discussed how teamwrk helped them solve problems.
The children have had two amazing sessions with 'Cricket Chris', in the first session they improved their catching skills and on Friday they learnt how to bowl. They will be revisiting these skills next week in their PE lesson on Monday.
During Science, we walked around the school looking for different materials - we even drew up tally charts to log our results!

English
In English over the past couple of weeks we
have been looking at extending narratives using the text ‘The Lion and The Unicorn’
by Shelley Hughes as a stimulus.
Across the journey, the children have unpicked
the text using their VIPERS skills, reminded themselves on the skill of using
relative clauses, wrote setting descriptions and diary entries. All of the
knowledge explored across this journey resulted in the children extending the
narrative by writing an alternative ending.
The children have loved looking at this text
as it links nicely to our first wider curriculum theme of WW2. The children
have been able to use their topographical knowledge to inform their creative
pieces used a wide range of tier one, two and three vocabularies.
We are incredibly proud of their first extended piece of writing and look forward to seeing what they produce in our next learning journey of Poetry – The Power of Imagery!
Maths
In Year Six we continue to follow the White
Rose Small Steps beginning with our first journey of ‘Place Value’. To begin
this learning journey the children, harnessed their prior knowledge to identify,
read and write numbers to 1,000,000 and 10,000,000.
The children then looked closely at the powers
of 10, this required the children to multiply and divided by 10s, 100s &
1000s. With the Year 5/6 curriculum so closely knitted, the children are very
much familiar with the strategies and methods presented and are therefore able
to approach more complex reasoning questions.
In this journey, we have also explored
rounding any integer, negative numbers and using number lines to 10,000,000. We
then ended the journey as we always do with an end of unit assessment. This
allows us and the children to see not only their progress in place value but
their next steps. From here, the children set themselves new targets for the
term.
Wider
Curriculum
We have hit the ground running with wider
curriculum and the children are certainly on board. As mentioned above, our
current theme we are exploring is WW2. Throughout this journey, the children will
explore a range of subjects, concepts and knowledge across all areas of the
curriculum with links to the overarching theme.
Within each area of the curriculum the
children will have enquiry questions that they’ll find the answers too. To
begin our journey, we have started with History and our enquiry question is ‘What
was the impact if WW2 on the people of Britain?’
So far, the children have used their chronology
skills to sequence key events that took place during WW2.They have investigated
what life would have been like during the blitz and the emotions felt by the
civilians. They have unpicked the story of Dunkirk, delving into the ‘Dunkirk’
spirit, as well as looking into the roles of women during WW2. They made
comparisons between WW2 and today’s roles for women and what impact the war
would have had!
It has been wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm
towards our new curriculum theme. WATCH THIS SPACE for our incoming artwork…

What a busy week we’ve had!
We had Cricket Chris in TWICE to teach us catching skills which we loved!
The children have thoroughly enjoyed splattering and dripping paint in an abstract style, just like the artist Jackson Pollock, ahead of creating their own paintings later this term.
Plus, there’s all of our other wonderful learning! In maths, we used the manipulatives to help us flexibly partition to 10,000! Wow! For English, ask your child to tell you a type of figurative language (maybe simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, personification or alliteration)? Perhaps they could even tell you the structure of a volcano?
Have a wonderful weekend!

Hello Everyone!
We have all been enjoying a new story this week, to inspire our writing lessons. The story of ‘Stanley’s Stick’ by John Henley, has helped us to use our creative ideas. According to Penhallow, a simple stick, has become a musical instrument, a dinosaur, a telescope, and a magic wand. The reception children have enjoyed finding their own sticks to explore these ideas in the school garden. Year 1 have written some lovely sentences to tell the story in their own words.
As you may have noticed, your child will have taken a wet swimming costume home on Wednesday. We decided to take advantage of the warm weather and go swimming in our lovely pool. Well done to reception, who mostly took part with enthusiasm.
On Friday we enjoyed a fun music lesson in class. We used a range of percussion instruments to accompany our singing, which included some action songs. It was lovely to hear some of the children singing these songs later, during learning through play.
Have a lovely weekend!
From the Penhallow team.

This week we have finished our question of “who am I? The children have been practicing drawing faces with different features such as eyes, ears, nose and mouth. We have been discussing the places we live and exploring the story of “The three little pigs”.
We have made the pigs houses out of straw and sticks and bricks and used props in the tuft tray with the pig stick puppets. The children have been painting and creating tube pigs.
In phonics we have been making the sounds of different family members, taking notice of the way we formed these sound with our mouths and we have been making silly soup with different initial sounds.
In maths we have been practicing counting and finding different numbers around us. We have been learning about simple shapes such as circle, square and triangle.
Have a great weekend
Julie, Sarah and Jade

The children have had an action packed week so far, they really enjoyed searching for Goldilocks and writing 'WANTED' posters. There was even more excitement when the children arrived on Wednesday to find the three bears sat at the classroom table but Baby Bear's porridge was missing!!!
In History, they have been finding out about the Wright Brothers and they watched their first flight, they couldn't believe it was in black and white!
In Science, they wore blindfolds to experience what it is like to walk without sight.
In Maths, they have continued to work on Place Value and have been thinking about whether there are fewer or more.
Reception have been enjoying the sunshine, they've been practicing number formation, painting and threading!

Marazion have enjoyed visiting St Anne's and playing with the residents this week. They showed a lot of respect and had lots of fun together! We had Cricket Chris in to teach us catching skills which we loved! The children have thoroughly enjoyed splattering and dripping paint in an abstract style like the artist Jackson Pollock ahead of creating their own paintings later this term. We welcomed back Miss Roberts who comes in and helps us by listening to us read. She kindly donated us a new classroom book, 'See Inside Planet Earth', which links perfectly to our topic and the children have already been enjoying it whilst all cosied up in our book corner!
As well as all of this, all of our other wonderful learning has continued. Can your child tell you a type of figurative language (maybe simile, metaphor or alliteration)? Perhaps they could tell you the structure of a volcano?

As ever it has been a busy couple of weeks back in school. Thank you to those of you who came to the 'Meet the Teacher' events at the Infant and Junior bases. The partnership that the schools have with parents is very important to us and to your child's wellbeing and development.
After a few teething troubles during the transition from Delaware and Gunnislake to Copper Valley, I am delighted to let you know that the Seesaw platform is now fully up and running. For those parents who are new to Seesaw, it is a brilliant tool where you can view your child's learning and communicate with staff. Staff will sometimes post messages and important reminders on Seesaw and, because these come straight through to your mobiles and tablets, they are easily accessible.
I am also pleased to let you know that the school websites are, in the main, complete! If you head to the learning tab and look under maths, I have added some resources so that you can use to support your child with their current learning.
I want to apologise to you all for my absence at the school entrance in the morning. Some of you will know but I am taking children to the Junior school base in Gunnislake so that we don't need to run 3 mini buses. I am enjoying chatting to the children as we head down the hill. We have named the morning service 'Cox's cabs'- could be a new career! I miss speaking to the other children and parents as they come in but I hope that you will understand why I'm not on the step first thing!
If you haven't had a chance then please look at our new Copper Valley Primary Academies Facebook page. We currently have 80 followers and we want to build on this.
Over the next few weeks we are going to work on a celebration event to mark the schools' name change. Look out for more information to follow. Enjoy the weekend when it arrives!
