FOWPA Quiz
What an amazing Quiz Night last Friday! With support from parents/carers, WPA staff, local businesses and the FOWPA team, £1500 was raised to fund improvements to the school. A special thank you to Robin Moorcroft and his team, as Quizmasters!
FOWPA Bake Off and Cake Sale
Wow, what a turn out for the Great WPA Bake-off! We had fantastic entries from the children and all of their bakes sold out within 30 minutes at the afternoon sale, raising £180! So sorry if anyone didn’t get to choose a bake, but thank you for all of the support received. It was wonderful to see the children supporting each other’s creations.
The bakes were judged by the Mr Wathern and the Year 6 House Captains and they must have had a tough job! In Thursday’s assembly, the following winners were presented with a certificate and special tea towel:
Nursery – Noah
Reception – Summer
Year 1 – Olivia
Year 2 – Bertie
Year 3 – Evie
Year 4 – Edrick
Year 5 – Salvador
Year 6 – Seth
If you would like to consider helping FOWPA with future fundraising, we are looking for new recruits. We’re a small team of busy adults who want to help our school thrive, so any amount of time helps. Please contact FOWPA or the office if you’d like to get involved.
Your support means so much to our school.
Thank you!

Children in Need & Wild Planet Trust Charity Non-Uniform Day – Friday 15th November
Friday 15th November is Children in Need Day. As we have recently voted to support the Wild Planet Trust as our chosen charity this year, we have decided to hold an animal themed non-uniform day to raise money for both of these worthwhile charities.
We invite the children to come to school on this day dressed up as the animal of their choice (they may choose to combine this with the 'Spotacular' Children in Need theme)! If you would like to contribute to this fund-raising event, please send your child to school with a voluntary donation in cash which will be collected by the teachers in class. Money raised will be split equally between Children in Need and Wild Planet Trust for conservation.
NSPCC Workshops
On Wednesday, we had two visitors from the NSCPP to run some workshops with our Year 2, 5 and 6 pupils. In an age appropriate way, the children were helped to understand: abuse and how to recognise the signs of abuse; that abuse is never a child’s fault and they have the right to be safe; where to get help and the sources of help available to them, including the Childline service.
"Buddy (a cuddly toy) helped us to understand that if we speak out, we can stay safe. So if someone is being mean to us, we can speak to a parent or a teacher. They gave us a toolkit and now I know who my safe person is."
Milo, Year 2
Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs)
A reminder that after half term, all after school ECAs start again. The teacher-led ECAs will finish on Friday 6th December. External providers (Pro20, DT Sports and Dance) finish as per sign up.
Pro20 and DT Sports
Please see the posters emailed out today to sign up your child to Pro20 and DT Sports for after half term. Early booking is advised! We thoroughly benefit from their coaching support during our PE lessons in school and highly recommend them for after school activities if your child is interested.
ParentPay
Just a polite reminder to check your ParentPay account to ensure it is not in arrears, thank you.
Head bump Bands
If your child has a bump to the head, as we do now, we will try and contact you by phone as well as sending home the first aid slip. From now on, in addition, your child will be given a yellow head bump band to wear around their wrist to indicate to any member of staff at school (including after school ECAs & Bridge Kids) and anyone collecting your child, that they have had a bump to their head.
Woodwind Lessons
This week we said farewell to Janet Elston who has been teaching woodwind lessons to our children for many years. It was very kind of the children to bring in leaving gifts and cards and we know Janet will be missed. This week the children were introduced to their new teacher, Amanda Rice who will be teaching woodwind after half term. If you are interested in your child taking up external music lessons (keyboard, guitar, brass, woodwind or percussion), please get in touch with the office.
Lunchtime Supervisor Vacancies
We are looking to recruit two Lunchtime Supervisors to join our team; Mon-Fri 11:30-13:00.
We are looking for someone who:
-Enjoys working with children
-Has high expectations of behaviour and positive strategies to support children
-Will support the school values across lunchtime
For more information, please check our Vacancies page on the website.
Poppy Appeal
After half term, our House Captains will be going around the school to sell poppies and other items to support the Poppy Appeal. Please send your child in with some coins if they want to buy something.

We've had a fabulous day for the last day of the half term celebrating our grand finale of Black History Month. Tregantle Class learnt all about the artist Alma Thomas. We learnt about the sad times Alma had as a child where she wasn’t allowed in art galleries because of the colour of her skin. We also learnt that she was the first black American woman to have her own art exhibit in a gallery. The children completed their own art work in the style of Alma Thomas using bright colours and circular shapes - they look amazing!

We have reached the end of a busy Autumn 1 with lots of fantastic learning taking place across the school. One of the benefits of a small school with mixed classes is how well teachers know the pupils which makes the return after the long summer break much easier to tailor accurately to each child. We have seen the impact of this with children able to talk about last year’s learning to build on new learning.
After School and Lunch time Clubs
Thanks to our lovely and dedicated staff, we have some brilliant clubs running again after half term, starting the second week back so from Monday 11th November.
Monday 3:15-4pm: Games Club with Mrs Fernie and Miss Talbot. This is open to Year 1-Year 6
Wednesday 3:15-4pm: Cooking Club with Mrs Andrew. This is open to Year 3 – Year 6
Thursday 3:15 – 4pm: Art and Crafts Club with Mrs Phillips. This is open to Year 1- Year 6.
Friday lunch time: STEM Club with Mr Twaite. Building, engineering and teamwork. This is open to all.
In addition, Mrs Wills is running Hot Chocolate SATs club for Year 6 Tuesday and Thursday afternoons between 3:15-4pm.
We will send out signing up sheets after half term and remind everyone that signing up to clubs is a commitment, so we expect you to attend very week.
INSET
Reminder that tomorrow, Friday 25th October is an INSET day and pupils will not be in school.
Achievement Assembly
Reader of the Week:
Robbie for always joining in with our guided reading sessions talking about his reading.
Nya for trying hard with her sounds in phonics to help her reading in school and her reading at home.
Star of the Week:
Tegan, Joyce, Ailla and Toby for being brilliantly resilient and curious about learning this week.
Mya for always showing kindness and friendship towards her peers in class.
Have a lovely half term break. We look forward to seeing all the children back on Monday 4th November,
On behalf of all the staff,
Jane Wills

Pelynt is blessed with an amazing outdoor learning area and this week the school had a collapsed curriculum day where the children spent the whole day building dens, toasting marshmallows and taking part in a range of art and design based activities. The weather really was kind to us and the children had a spectacular day!

A huge well done to R/1 for having such a fantastic first half term!!
Here is an overview of some of the things we have been doing this week.
English
In English this week the children have been designing their own Billy Goat and then using adjectives to describe it.
Maths
In Maths we have been continuing to learn number bonds to 10.
PSHE and DT
In PSHE we reviewed our classroom charter and came up with good learning behaviours, these included listening and helping others.
In DT the children reviewed their smoothies by deciding what was good about them and what they could improve, they suggested adding milk to make it smoother.

This half term Class 1’s enquiry question has been ‘How has Duloe changed since it’s stone circle was created?’
The children have been busy learning about what life was like in the Bronze age and as part of their art have created beautiful sketches of Duloe Stone Circle which will be on display in St Cuby church over half term.

WOW! It is the end of our first half term! It has been a very long half term, being eight weeks and we can see that the children are all very tired! However, they have been AMAZING and their first half term at full time school has been wonderful.
The children have all progressed in their own way so much
and we are beyond proud of their achievements!
This week the children have been assessed in phonics as we
reached the end of level 2. The children are progressing well. Each year we
revisit level 2 so that we can ensure writing progression and application as
well as reading.
The children have been working towards a ‘pumpkin day’ this
week and have been making wonderful choices and working hard. They have been
using their phonics to write characters and items they remember from our poems.
They have been recognizing, matching and making numbers to 10. The children
have been working with Mr. Liddement this
week to create obstacle courses and construction walls. The problem solving has
been amazing!
In outdoor learning the children were set a challenge with Mrs
Gregory. Mrs Gregroy made two areas with rope, she then showed the children a
stick, their first job was to find a bigger stick and put it in one of the
areas roped out. My goodness did the children find big sticks we even had a
log! Then the children had to compare Mrs Gregory’s stick and find smaller
ones. The outdoor learning session is a great session where the children learn
so many skills in the natural environment.
The children have also been making autumnal pictures,
cutting, sticking, painting and drawing. They have been practicing their name
writing and so much more!
We wish you all a wonderful half term break and we look
forward to seeing all the children on Monday 4th November

We made it to half term! This week, we have been focussing our efforts on finishing off our non-chronological reports on owls. I have been super impressed with everyone's writing - well done!
In Maths, Year 2 have been continuing to explore addition and subtraction, and using base 10 to support their understanding. Year 3 have been practising their column addition, when crossing over 10s and 100s. We have had to work hard to remember when to exchange, but everyone has done fantastically well!
During Wider Curriculum, we have been discovering what an input is in Computing and designed our own robots, labelling what different components do. In Art, we finished our abstract flower paintings, where we produced an A3 version of our chosen flower section. We then used watercolour paints to add a wash of colour. We were amazed by what was produced! We also had another lovely Music lesson with Mrs Butlin, using the ukulele's.
Congratulations to Tommy and Anya for being chosen as Landaviddy's People of the Week!
Please continue to read daily, practise your curriculum spellings and KIRFS over half term.
Class Trip
A letter has been sent via email regarding a class trip we will be going on next half term, to the Royal Cornwall Museum in Truro. Children will be given the paper copy of the letter on the first day back after half term.
We hope you have a wonderful half term break and we look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday 4th November.

We have reached the end of an exceptionally busy half term. Thank you so much to those of you who joined us for the Harvest Festival. I am sure that you enjoyed the children's terrific singing. Thank you also for your kind donations for the food bank.
I would like to also thank you for your donations for the shoeboxes for the children in Ukraine. After the half term holiday we will collate the items ready to send them off. I will keep you updated as to how many boxes we managed to send.
Sadly, we say a fond goodbye to two members of staff. Mrs Jeanette Wood is retiring from her role as cleaner. Jeanette has been cleaning the school for over 12 years and has done a great job. Luckily, she will still continue in her role as cook in charge.
Mrs Christine Penhorwood is retiring from her role as cleaner and midday supervisor. She has been with us for over 8 years and will be much missed by staff and children alike. I am sure that you will join me in wishing them both a well-deserved rest and a happy retirement/semi retirement!
The children had a lovely time at the disco on Thursday night- the fancy dress standard was excellent! I hope that you all have a great half term break with your families and plenty of Autumnal sunshine.

I apologise for not writing on here for two weeks but between first aid training, taking 16 year six children to London it has been busy for me. Your children continue to make me smile every day and the learning is going strong. We have almost finished learning about Muslim's in Britain today and the children did some wonderful presentations about a famous British Muslim of their choosing - Mo Farah was a firm favourite for all he has achieved. We have also been enjoying learning about the Alps and have been talking about how different it is from our coastal town and how tricky it would have been to maneuver over during the World Wars. It was great that the children were able to combine this geography knowledge with their history learning. I also apologise if they all ask for skiing holidays to Innsbruck as we investigate leisure and tourism and why people enjoy going to the Alps so much.
Please can I ask once again if parents will sign their children's arbor permissions for photos, it will mean I can attach photos to these blogs each week which is always lovely to see.
Many thanks,
Sam

Foundation / Year 1 have been busy this week in the lead up to half term.
We have finished off our learning around our wider curriculum question ‘Who am I?’ We have been applying this to our learning activities in the classroom by building houses and using these as discussions for who we live with in our homes.
In Maths, Foundation have been working on their number recognition by having a number, and then making a tower to match the number. Year 1 have been making part-whole models and then using these to write number sentences.
We have been busy outside this week using our water tray. We have been measuring, filling, emptying and practising our turn taking!
We have also explored the library this week and explored lots of different books. We chose whatever book interested us and had a look.
We have had a great first half term in Foundation / Year 1 and I have loved getting to know the children and watch them settle in. They have been just amazing and are real super stars.
I hope everyone has a lovely week and I look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Monday 4th November.
Thank you for all your support.

We have been so busy this last week with many lovely things! But last Friday was the best. Even though it was raining, we enjoyed a long time in our Forest School area. We had a really good play and toasted marshmallows!
We had a lovely time :)

This week we have finished our enquiry question “How do I know it is autumn?”
The children have been finishing different crafts including fingerprint acorns and they have been sticking leaves and drawing faces to make leaf animals.
On Thursday we dressed up for Halloween and made apple pumpkins and had a spooky snack of ghost bananas and pumpkin satsumas.
At story time we have enjoyed more autumn stories and the children have especially loved "Room on the broom"
In phonics we have been finishing rhymes that we hear in stories, naming the different sounds that we hear in our environment and copying and making movements with our bodies.
In maths, we have been making arrangements with shapes, identifying numbers in everyday life and counting groups of objects.
It is INSET tomorrow and then half term so have a great week and we will see you when we return on Monday 4th November.

English
In
English this week, the children finished writing up their information booklets
all about natural disasters. Exploring
the features of this genre first and planning their booklets have enabled the
children to make their own ones interesting for the reader. They are looking
fantastic, and we cannot wait to share them with you in our PTCs.
Maths
Our maths learning journey has been based
around addition and subtraction. The
children have explored adding and subtracting 1s, 10s and 100s in different
ways, using number lines, partitioning and the column method.
Wider
Curriculum
To finish our learning journey based around
rocks and natural disasters, the children have explored art based around
waves. First, the children discovered
two artists Maggi Hambling and Katsushika Hokusai. As a class, we discussed
describing their work, how the art made them feel, what was similar and
different about their work, what they noticed about the brush strokes,
textures, colours, feelings and atmosphere, and finally what they think each
artist thought about the sea.
Over the two weeks, the children experimented
with different materials and mediums with creating their own waves. Using a colour wheel, the children trialled
colour combinations to produce a range of tones. Our final challenge was to apply our learned
artist skills to create wave art, using brusho for the background. As true artists, we showcased our art in a
class gallery.

Well done to our amazing cross-country runners who entered the first cross-country league race of the year with enthusiasm and energy. In spite of the mud and rain they all completed the course admirably. A great start to the season.
Foodbank Assembly and Cookery Demonstration
On Tuesday 22nd October, the Foodbank Schools and Rural Outreach Team will be joining us for an
assembly where the children will learn about all of the things they do in the community. At the
assembly, the children will present our harvest donations collected this month.
At 3:15, following the assembly, parents and carers are encouraged to come and join their children
in the hall where a cookery demonstration will take place. Any family that attends after school will
receive a bag of ingredients and a recipe card to take home. This project is separately funded and is
all about encouraging families to cook. It is open to everyone. If your child is at dance club, please
come and join us anyway.
Please email school by Monday to us to let us know if you would
like to attend the cookery demonstration. It would be great to see as many of you as possible there.
